Every week, beginning in January 2008, Price of Silence will present a new story about Natalie Fisher and her family and friends. There are about 15 stories; most of them concern Natalie's abortion and subsequent events related to it.
I wrote these stories to help move abortion from the realm of rhetoric ("abortion on demand"; "a culture of life"; "Pro-life! It's a lie! You don't care if women die!") to the realm of the specific. That is, to the place where every woman who has an abortion (or doesn't) actually makes her decision.
Here's how you can participate: Every story is licensed under a Creative Commons "Attribution, Non-commercial, Share-Alike" license. That means you can send the work to all your friends or rewrite it, as long as you mention that it originated here and don't try to make any money off your version or mine. If that confuses you, go to Creative Commons and read what they say about their licenses.
If you'd like me to post your story, send it in the body of an email to priceofsilence@gmail.com. I'll post it as long as it's rhetoric-free.
Please note that all new work based on mine will carry the same Creative Commons license.
Only one story, "Afraid to Say," has been published, in Feminist Studies. My thanks to the editors of that journal for publishing my work.
